• Spring - four Northwestern students form The Lines, which becomes The Front Lines
• June 12 - the Dils play Gaspar's. Probably the first show by a West Coast punk band in Chicago. Unfortunately for the Dils, Disco Demolition Night took place at Comiskey Park the same night.
• July 17 - End Result form
• August - Poison Squirrel makes it's debut at Gaspar's
• September 9 - the Buzzcocks and Gang of Four play Mothers
• September 14 - the Clash play the Aragon Ballroom
• October - The Ramones played a show at B'Ginnings
