For what it's worth I was one of the "SAIC staff/Faculty" members who facilitated the birth of the band since I had the keys to the back room of the Sound Department at the time. I also played guitar at several shows including one at the notorious Mothers shows. Pimpin' to Detroit was my "hook" contribution. Since I had the most technical experience I also mixed many of the bands in the day, if you have memories of bad sound I apologise, I was still learning.
