'''''Ruby Zel''''' was a band based out of the southwest suburbs, and was active in the late 90's. They were a three piece, all girl band, headed by singer Nikki Haggerty. Carly Lopez played bass.
One might describe Nikki's voice as a female counterpart of Steve Walker of [[My Big Beautiful]], who was heavily influenced by Josh Caterer of [[Smoking Popes]]. 
Nikki's falsetto, captivating vocals over their pop, upbeat yet emotional melodies could have made for one of the best female groups in Chicago's punk history. Sadly, only a couple of demo tapes floated around locally and few shows were booked, and Ruby Zel split up before really making a mark on the scene.
