The Bliss Machine is a post-punk/funk band founded in the early in the Spring of 1991 and went into hiatus some 18 months later in the Fall of 1992; the band re-booted 29 years later in 2021.

History
EZD and Bliss Master D had been college roommates in the Summer of 1990 in the East side dormitories of the University of Illinois at Chicago; both played guitar and enjoyed similar music. They formed the core of the new 5-piece band originally known as Proletariat Bondage and later Strey Voltage. After several personnel they evolved into a three-piece by the Fall of 1991.

The Bliss Machine played one live performance at an invite-only house party in the East Pilsen artist colony on May 29,199 - it was shut-down early by the Chicago Police due to noise concerns.
Subsequent efforts to recruit a suitable replacement bassist/vocalist were unsuccessful and the project went into an extended hiatus. Co-founder Thompson continued his musical journey in Bröken Vëgas playing the drums from 1994-1996. Bliss Master D parlayed the digital audio recording gear that he had acquired to launch a voicemail portal, then on a BBS and ultimately as Web database of indie music, it featured audio clips, label art and photography from musical artists. The following year he co-founded one of the first Web agencies as general manager, marketing lead and audio engineer.

Co-founders Bliss Master D and EZD re-formed the project in the Spring of 2021 recruiting bassist and songwriter Dr. E. Phunkenbass to the largely studio project.

Later that year, the band was forced the cancel their public debut scheduled for November 18, 1992 on Phyllis' Musical Inn when bassist Bebo left the band to focus on academic studies.

Subsequent efforts to recruit a suitable replacement bassist/vocalist were unsuccessful and the project went into an extended hiatus. Co-founder Thompson continued his musical journey in Bröken Vëgas playing the drums from 1994-1996. Bliss Master D parlayed the digital audio recording gear that he had acquired to launch Pl@n3t $t@rCh1ld in 1993. Originally launched as a voicemail portal, then on a BBS and ultimately as Web database of indie music, it featured audio clips, label art and photography from musical artists. The following year he co-founded one of the first Web agency's Streams Online Media Development as general manager/marketer and audio engineer.

Tassone and Thompson re-formed the project in the Spring of 2021 recruiting bassist and songwriter E. Gorscak to the largely studio project.
D. "EZD" Thompson and D. "Bliss Master D" Tassone had been college roommates in the Summer of 1990 in the East side dormitories of the University of Illinois at Chicago; both played guitar and enjoyed similar music.
The Bliss Machine played one live performance at an invite-only house party in the East Pilsen artist colony on May 29,199 - it was shut-down early by the Chicago Police due to noise concerns. Later that year, the band was forced the cancel their public debut scheduled for November 18, 1992 on Phyllis' Musical Inn when bassist G. "Bebo" Stuart left the band to focus on academic studies.

Subsequent efforts to recruit a suitable replacement bassist/vocalist were unsuccessful and the project went into an extended hiatus. Co-founder Thompson continued his musical journey in Bröken Vëgas playing the drums from 1994-1996. Tassone parlayed the digital audio recording gear that he had acquired to launch Planet StarChild in 1993. Originally launched as a voicemail portal, then on a BBS and ultimately as Web database of indie music, it featured audio clips, label art and photography from musical artists. The following year he co-founded one of the first Web agency's Streams Online Media Development as general manager/marketer and audio engineer.

The band played one live performance at an invite-only house party in Pilsen on May 29,1992 that was shut-down by the Chicago Police due to noise concerns. The untimely break-up of the band later that year forced the band to cancel their scheduled debut at Phyllis' Musical Inn on November 18, 1992.

Subsequent efforts to recruit a suitable replacement bassist/vocalist were unsuccessful and the project went into an extended hiatus. Co-founder Dominic Tassone parlayed the digital audio recording gear that he had acquired to launch Planet StarChild in 1993. Originally launched as a voicemail portal, then on a BBS and ultimately as Web database of independent music, it featured audio clips, label art and photography from indie artists. The following year he co-founded one of the first Web agency's Streams Online Media Development as general manager and audio engineer.

This site intends to be a collections of bands, members, labels etc. for the Chicago punk scene. This page specifically focuses on the earlier Chicago scene - but is open to all eras past and present, the information on this page pretty much focuses on Chicago punk before 1990, though there is a growing collection of information on 1990-Present bands. If you have content to add for an era feel free to contribute. All you have to do to add pages is create an account and start making pages. Click here for more info on how to edit pages.

There are NUMBEROFARTICLES articles in the database, most of which are small and need more information. Some suggestions to get started - add a link to an unlisted band on left-hand side of this page, go to a band's page and add members/instruments, fix any spelling errors, or create new page about your favorite Chicago Punk record. Anything you can add will help tremendously, so please contribute today!

Although it was recorded in 1982, Trial By Fire's record was never released at the time. After thirty five years Alona's Dream Records finally gave it a formal release. The sounds holds up today and could very well have been the first hardcore record from a Chicago band. You'll notice many songs that have been done by other bands, including the famous opener to Naked Raygun's Vanilla Blue. Do yourself a favor and buy a copy from Alona's Dream, you won't regret it.
John Pierson (aka Jughead from Screeching Weasel) and Russ Forster did a fantastic podcast on Big Black's Atomizer record. It has interviews with Santiago Durango, Steve Albini, Camilo Gonzalez and Jeff Pezzati on the beginnings of Big Black and how that record came to be. The Jugheads Basement podcast previously focused on such groundbreaking 80s Chicago records as Naked Raygun's Throb Throb and Screeching Weasel's My Brain Hurts. == The Chicago Punk Database ==

Trial By Fire record released after 35 years
Although it was recorded in 1982, Trial By Fire's record was never released at the time.
Podcast on Big Black's Atomizer
John Pierson (aka Jughead from Screeching Weasel) and Russ Forster did a fantastic podcast on Big Black's Atomizer record. It has interviews with Santiago Durango, Steve Albini, Camilo Gonzalez and Jeff Pezzati on the beginnings of Big Black and how that record came to be. The Jugheads Basement podcast previously focused on such groundbreaking 80s Chicago records as Naked Raygun's Throb Throb and Screeching Weasel's My Brain Hurts.
The Bliss Machine is a post-punk band originally founded in the dorms at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1991. The band went into hiatus when signature bassist, Graham Stuart left in November 1992. Co-founders Dominic Tassone and Derrick Thompson have re-formed the project in 2021.

The band recorded a live 10-song album Ready to Roll in May of 1992; five original songs have been released online in 2021: Kuwait, Telemate, No Control, That Way and Don't Mess with a Woman.

History
The band played one performance at an invite-only house party in Pilsen on May 29,1992 which was broken-up by the Chicago Police due to noise concerns. The break-up of the band was untimely as the band was scheduled to perform at Phyllis' Musical Inn on November 18, 1992. Efforts to recruit a suitable replacement were not successful and the project went into an extended hiatus. Co-founder Dominic Tassone launched Planet StarChild an online database of independent music in 1993; the following year he co-founded one of the first Web agency's Streams Online Media Development.
