Matt Nelson was a prominent show promoter in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Originally from Mt. Prospect, he was best known for promoting shows at Durty Nellies in Palatine and, later, McGregor's in Elmhurst. Close friends with John Pierson, the first official Screeching Weasel show was held the basement of Matt's parents' Mt. Prospect home in December 1986. Matt's father owned a bowling pro shop and small four-lane bowling alley located at Palwaukee Airport in Prospect Hts. where Screeching Weasel would end of taking photos of the band members bowling in the nude which were included as a limited poster in the initial pressing of their second LP, Boogadaboogadaboogada! (some of the photos later appeared on the back cover of the vinyl reissue released by Lookout! Records in 1992). After McGregor's closed in 1993, Matt moved on to other ventures and was no longer as active in promoting local punk shows.

In February 2011, Matt passed away unexpectedly after suffereing a seizure in his sleep. He was 42 years old.
