Misery Index (1987-1997) was active in Chicago from 1991 to 1997, prior to that in St. Louis from 1987 to 1990, moved to Chicago when bass player, Ggreg Perry migrated here. The band name comes from hearing the term "misery index" in the Sonic Youth song I'm Insane.

They were influenced by bands like Les Thugs, Sex Pistols, Ramones, Dead Kennedys and Big Black.
