Lounge Ax was a bar and music venue located on Lincoln Ave in the Lincoln Park neighborhood that existed from 1987 until 2000. The bar was owned by Julia Adams (who was a co-founder) and Sue Miller (who came onboard in 1989). Miller had previously worked at the Cubby Bear. The bar was known for its long, narrow room and was a prominent stop for many indie and alternative rock bands in the 1990s. In the mid 90s, a noise complaint by a neighbor led to an attempt by the city to shut down the bar over license issues. In response, Touch and Go issued a benefit CD called "The Lounge Ax Defense & Relocation Compact Disc" that featured songs from Shellac, The Jesus Lizard & others to help the venue with their legal costs and attempts to find a new location. They were eventually evicted and the final show at Lounge Ax took place on January 15, 2000.
