Glynis Johnson was the bass player for Friends of Betty, a band she formed with her boyfriend, Tim Rituli in the mid '80's. She played with band until 1990, after which Friends of Betty became Red Red Meat. Also in 1990, Glynis formed a band with Ben Weasel and Jughead of Screeching Weasel, and Russ Forster, formerly of Sponge and Fudgetunnel. The band was first called Glynis Johnson and the Disgusteens, but later changed their name to the Gore Gore Girls. Glynis quit after the first show, which Ben Weasel later described as "abysmal" (the group lasted for 2 more shows). Glynis was an original member of Red Red Meat and performed on their first album. The band toured with Smashing Pumpkins 1992. By then, the romance between Glynis and Tim Rituli had ended and she left the band after the tour. Glynis died from A.I.D.S. related complications later that year. In 1993, the Smashing Pumpkins released the song "Glynis", which was dedicated to her.
